Has anyone signed up to private blood tests? I was looking at Thriva. I’m kind of happy with my GP but I’m always reminding him that a test is due. And at the moment of course it’s hard to see him. The other thing is that it won’t do any harm to have second opinion. It isn’t very expensive - maybe £50 every three to four months?

Private blood tests
Medichecks is the most popular company.
Hi. I used Thriva last week. I started taking a statin ten weeks ago and wanted to check on my liver. I also checked on my lipids, B12, B9 and iron levels. I didn’t want to trouble the surgery at this time and suspected they might not be doing them anyway.
Sent the sample back on Thursday and the results arrived by email on Friday. Will use them for an HbA1c test next week.
I have forwarded results to the GP and cardiologist for my records.
Easy to order, prompt turnaround, results and explanations clearly set out.
I would recommend although I am sure there are other providers.
Thanks sounds good. Think I’ll use them. Already done the quiz thing so they have hooked me in 😀
If you can manage the expense I think they are good, certainly in these uncertain times. I intend having quarterly HbA1c, LFT and lipids tests for the foreseeable future.
By the way, my LFT were slightly better than before I started on the statin (with the exception of bilirubin which had been elevated before then). This is probably attributable to weight loss and lifestyle changes but at least shows that statins don’t appear to be a problem for my liver (which I know is a concern for many).
That's a good idea thank you. Will definitely look at some different companies. For the peace of mind, for me, the cost is worth it
