Irresponsible Media Reporting

I've just spotted the headline on the lead article in the Mail Online in response to the government telling pubs, restaurants etc to close, it reads:- FAREWELL TO FUN.

It wouldn't be funny if additional people fell victim to Covid-19 as a result of people going out partying while this crisis unfolds. It's no wonder that people are ignoring the requests to avoid gatherings when the press seems to be encouraging this behaviour, and now bemoans the fact that the plug has been pulled. I hope that the editor looks at that tag and does not run the printed version tomorrow with that comment on the cover. To those of us trying to avoid this virus it is extremely disrespectful.

The daily fail , whether on line or printed, is a shocking newspaper for the way it reports things, very irresponsible!

Very well said, an irresponsibly gormless headline that needs changing.

This all stems from a total lack of leadership, I live in Southern Spain and have now been on lockdown for a week, we are only allowed out to shop for essentials and medicines. There is no-one that likes to party more or be in crowds than the Spanish but in the main keeping your distance is being observed. At least we have some leaders with cojones.

I reckon Boris is doing OK myself, Floods, Climate change, now this, you fancy the Job?

None of us know where this is going. Nontheless this is interesting:

PERSPECTIVE (MAYBE)?

FROM FULLFACT:

The WHO estimates that between 290,000 and 650,000 respiratory deaths globally each year are associated with seasonal influenza.

Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely¾from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19. Public Health England does not publish a mortality rate for the flu. FROM FULLFACT.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases and deaths is changing quickly. At the time of writing on Wednesday March 11, there were over 120,000 confirmed cases globally and over 4,300 deaths. In the UK, 456 people have tested positive and six have died.

Absolutely, had to leave Spain early from visiting my sister, my daughter had to come back early from her year abroad studying at Valencia Uni. But they have leadership, statesmanly authority and I thought the whole thing was handled well and with grace.

If they but knew how quickly it spreads & how dangerous it really is. It would wipe the smile off their face. Pubs should have been the first to close. ❤️

The Mail is well known for scaremongering. I happened across a Sun article yesterday advising people to stock up on at leasts 2 weeks worth of food and essentials. It's things like that that caused all the panic buying. The Mail should be shut down.

I’ve now deleted my Daily Mail app. Not healthy platform and very manipulative of its audience. Cultivating a very hateful, angry readership.

Been down my corner shop earlier and had a look at what the paper went with this morning, seems the editor had a re-think on what the online version said last night -the print copy reads SHUTDOWN - and follows with "PM finally orders closure" the word 'finally' seems to be trying to suggest that the DM was in favour of the pubs being closed! - I reckon the Press Complaints Commissioner has had a word in their ear!

Daily Mail has always been a s**t paper. Can anyone remember that episode of "when the boat comes in" where the Geordie Woman gave her son a mouthful with "And on your way home buy yersel a copy of the Daily Mail bonnie lad".

SpiritoftheFloyd in reply to

Yes I can remember that, James Bolam as Jack Ford, late 1970s - never repeated. I assume the tapes were wiped

in reply to SpiritoftheFloyd

Yeah never seen them since. Maybe the editor of the DM got them censored? I was only a young man that woman had a certain something....

SpiritoftheFloyd in reply to

You mean Susan Jameson - she's James Bolam's wife in real life

in reply to SpiritoftheFloyd

Ah yeah wow shes 78 now! still got that appeal though..I just googled her and gone all funny, maybe it's the G&T.

I just went down the co-op, beer is limited to 2 bottles. Couldn't advise if that's 2 bottles of the same brand or just 2 of any. I might need to start home brewing again.

I have seen some intellectual reporting on the pandemic, in terms of it could potentially signal the end of capitalism and greed, as we need to move to a more compassionate society that cares for each other, instead who’s got the most bog roll wins.

in reply to

Rock on, lets hope so.

And the lazy live off the rest !!! Communism didn't work. I don't need to be told how to behave. I will support my fellow travellers on this journey as long as they pull their weight

Thank you for sharing your insight.

Stopped giving any of them space in my life a long time ago. The British Press are the most inhumane of any form life on this planet. Purely in it for the money - at the cost of any ones life.

Scum would be a compliment for all of them - unless they can prove otherwise, and none have been able to do it yet. Wonder when any of them last reported a story in the contect with which it occured and with a lot of accuracy of facts beign reported.

Look how they responded to Leveson?

I have not bought a newspaper of any description for about 35 years.

Me and Mrs Lateguitarist have very similar general views, thankfully. I do keep trying to get her to learn the bass or drums, would be nice to have a bit of help with timing.....

in reply to Prada47

Yeah sounds easy just 4 strings, I fancy it myself trouble is the chord shapes are all upside down plus you have to have a certain sort of mentality. do you know any Bass players? Odd sorts.

Prada47 in reply to
