Dentist and Coronavirus

I'm a moderate - severe heart failure patient and I have a routine dentist appointment this week. Should I still attend with the Coronavirus threat at the moment?

More a question for your dentist, I would think.

I have a dental appointment to have a decayed and broken tooth out. If I leave it it may abscess which could be nasty.

Some dental issues cannot be left and I think we are in for the long haul...

Good answer. My visit to the hygienist was cancelled just this morning. It was set for Thursday 12th, no rebooking was offered as they're trying to stop all routine visits 'for now' but the receptionist said if anything comes up like pain or signs of infection I'm to telephone and they'll get me straight in.

I would speak to your dentist

I think it also depends on known cases in your area

Only you can really decide

I agree with others, give your Dentist a call, they will know how to advise you. Good luck xxx

Well I had my errant wisdom tooth out today. There was a sign outside telling people not to enter the building if they had a fever, a cough or any other symptoms of illness. Only one other person in the waiting area and hand gel available which I used on arrival and departure - a new experience for me outside of the hospital environment. Currently I am numb from my chin to the eye socket and mumbling!

Afterwards I had quite a successful supermarket visit ; jumbo roll of kitchen towel, 16 Paracetamol (last pack in shop) and two packets of pasta (no sauce). They might get some hand gel tomorrow but they might not! 🤔

Hope the numbness wears off soon it’s an awful feeling, though with a wisdom tooth you could be sore glad you got some paracetamol from the supermarket! Keep well.

I have pre-loaded Paracetamol now anesthetic wearing off and can sense an ache there! ☹️

Hope your mouth is feeling more comfortable this morning, I have a dental check up on Monday just spoken with my dentist and she as told me to leave it and make another appointment when things have settled down! Her words better safe than sorry!

Well 24 hours on and the temporary swelling is much reduced (cue hamster emoji) and the socket feels fairly comfortable. Still taking painkillers as cheekbone feels like Ali caught me with a left hook!🥊 Fingers crossed for no subsequent infection!

I have a dental check up next Monday so I will phone my dentist tomorrow see what she says. They know my heart surgery so will go with what she says.

Wish you better Michael. No hot drinks for you for a few hours. Apparently G&T a bad idea too according to dentist husband!

If you are taking painkillers alcohol is a bad idea. A friend's father mixed alcohol and Paracetamol, and ended up with liver damage that meant no alcohol for the rest of his life. Actually I prefer a malt - favourite is Laphroaig with its mix of peatiness and smokiness! 😄 But for now it is Paracetamol. ☹️

Notice on dentist's door said not to enter building if you have any sort of symptoms... Was tempted to add "Remember Marathon Man"! 😁

Dentists are now only going to carry our emergency procedures. Crossing fingers things remain stable tooth wise.

If you have an acute toothache and need quick treatment, then you should visit a dentist. And if it's just a routine checkup, I'd put it off until better times. I have no toothache, but after eating I feel uncomfortable and need to use dental floss, so I decided to make an appointment with the dentist. Besides, I found a great family dentistry, so I'll be able to take my son with me (he has tooth decay). By the way, I read an interesting article about dental care for children on their website, you can find it on smileworkshop.com/dental-se... and I think that everyone who has children should read it. Be healthy!
