Thank you to all that have very kindly given their experiences of how they have got on with their mechanical or tissue valve, it’s been so helpful. It’s seems very much like a mine field... but my hubby and I are much clearer on the different options. We notice that some of you hearties have the Edward resilia prosthetic valve. So are we right in thinking that theses valves can lasts upto 20 years, but if they don’t last that long the next procedure could be a TAVI which could be done under local anaesthetic and sedation which means if your health isn’t so good the procedure could still be completed.
The other think is would we right in thinking that the tissue valve would deteriorate just like your own valve etc.
Thank you all,

Hey Jewel7. My understanding is yes 20-25 years is the expected life for the Inspiris. TAVI... possibly... it partly depends on the size of valve I believe (but happy to be corrected), which you may not know until afterwards. For eg I think (though am not 100% so am going to check when I next see the cardiologist) that mine is alas too small for future TAVI, at least under current technology. But obviously worth checking that. Deterioration - yes, but more because it gradually becomes calcified rather than stenotic. Hence with the Inspiris it's the anti-calcification coating that slows the degredation down. While a mechanical one is like a Duracell bunny!
Hi, l really love your Duracell bunny expression, my mechanical heart valve is three years old and l hope to "hop" around for a long time and watch my three Grandsons grow into men. l will remember that anytime l get a twinge or worry. Thanks. Sue.
