Hi all had a phone call for a last minute appointment for Saturday.

They said reduce the 2.5mg of bisoprolol to 1.25 tomorrow then take nothing on Saturday.

Has anyone suddenly stopped there Bisoprolol in this way I read it’s not safe but obviously trust in what the cardiology department have just told me via phone call.

Hi

Never stopped Bisoprolol

but have dropped from 10 mg to 7.5 literally overnight with no adverse effect. Hope that helps a little.

Regards

My husband was taking 2.5mg for 3 months and was told to increase to 5mg before a CT angio. It was normal and he was told to stop it altogether. He had no issues, and had more energy.

How weird - that's the opposite of what I had to do! I wish these docs would make up their minds :)

Thanks that’s reassuring the doctor did say that although it says never to stop suddenly most people can and it’s fine

Hi Chevi. I had an angioplasty last year and had to drop from 5mg to zero in 4 days. No problems, and I was put straight back on the full amount the next day.

Oh that’s a big drop, I was told it takes 24 hours for the bisoprolol to leave the body so I will soon find out if I feel better or worse lol

I was breathless so told to stop altogether! Also felt bit worried but GP just said 'take it easy'! A week later was put on a different med and later tested by nurse and told had asthma for which I now take inhalers. Taken them over 6 months to work this out and before could hardly cross the road!

I was on 1.25 and was having hallucinations. I stopped it straight away with no problems at all

Gosh that don’t sound good, I’m one of the lucky ones to have no side effects but I know many who say the medication is just the worst they have had.

in reply toMrsP70

So are you on any medications at all?

No, and feeling much better , still got bp but this meds business has been going on since last June I am 70 and taking and trying different ones changed my life for the worse ( I am not advising anyone to stop taking their bp meds) however I will be having a review at the on of this month ,

I had severe breathlessness with them ,went from a swimming and walking and very active 70 year old to not being able to walk from one room to another . I am a lot better now but still have some breathlessness ,I am hoping to keep on improving , its only been a month so far.

I would like to know if anyone else is like me.

See from your earlier post that you were put on these meds to protect your heart as CKD can go on to cause cardiovascular problem. My opinion only - that many meds do more harm than good and Drs are very bad at giving dietary advice. However as you have found out the internet can be a good source of info and you can self manage on a dietary basis. I hope you continue to improve with good diet and exercise.

from my understanding. You need to gradually reduce the dosage but going from 2.5 to 1.25 isn’t such a big difference. The doctors do know what they’re doing so trust them I’m sure you will be OK. X
