Unless you eat by the pound, just buy what you like! Vegetable ones (olive based for example) are supposed to be the best for you from a health perspective but if you don’t like them , what’s the point.

So glad others like me prefer butter . At rehab the cardiac nurses recommended marj/spreads but they are they are processed /adulterated unlike butter which is pure.

Eat what you like as long as it's in moderation.

I occasionally buy an olive oil spread but a not overkeen as I looked at the analysis of one of the popular brands. Only 21% was olive oil. It also contained rape seed oil, sunflower oil, buttermilk and endless chemicals.

You can make your own spread. Pour some good quality olive oil into a ramekin, cover with aluminum foil and pop in the freezer overnight. Next day transfer to the fridge and in a few hours you will have pure olive oil spread. It must be stored in the fridge and not left out.

Thanks, Michael. I'll have to try that :)

You can also add something like black pepper/rosemary for background flavour.

Just a footnote for certain members - it will not set if you add gin! 😁

It has to be butter that way I know what’s in it, no chemicals or palm oil. I also make my own cream cheese again so I know what’s in it.

Unsalted butter for me and mine, but reading through this discussion replies I see where Michael has suggesting olive oil made into a spread by freezing in a ramekin then thawing and storing in the fridge. He also suggests some flavourings (black pepper, rosemary) that sounds so nice I'm seriously considering it.
