Eye problem

I've been taking warfarin for 15 years as I have a metal aortic valve. I used to take aspirin as well until 4 or 5 years ago when I had a serious gastric bleed so the aspirin was stopped. I occasionally get blurred vision mainly in my left eye. I've been told this is amaurosis fugax, small blood vessels changes in the eye which are caused by the metal valve. About 3 months ago, I rapidly developed a large floater in the left eye. I've seen an optician who told me the gel in my eye is starting to break down though he was more concerned about the surface of my retina which has become irregular with cratering here and there. I've been referred to a hospital eye specialist though not on an emergency basis. A friend who has no heart history developed a bleed in an eye and was told she would have to wait many months so she went private for treatment. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has these symptoms and what, if anything, has been done about it. Thank you.

Unfortuneately opthalmology waiting lists seem even worse than cardiology ones. They are overloaded with patients because of increasing numbers of people with cataracts (people living longer), diabetic complications, TIA and stroke related issues, etc. I have regular checks because of long term Type I diabetes and nearly every appointment gets changed. Have you got a date? If you haven't got one four weeks after referral chase it up. Good luck!
