Apologises, I seem to be asking umpteen questions!Recently diagnosed with small vessel disease/angina, it is Saturday night , I am enjoying a few glasses of red wine, with my husband at home.I find myself worrying about this. How have others coped, stopped drinking all together?

Moderation in all things. I have never been told to stop drinking, not that I am or have ever been a big drinker in any way. Just enjoy your wine and relax.

Brangwyn have you been diagnosed with microvascular angina?

This is the term now more often used to describe small vessel disease.

I live with both MVA and Vasospastic angina.

I enjoy a glass of wine.

I have never been told not to drink alcohol either.

Isn't wine part of the Mediterranean diet 😉

I spoke to my cardiac surgeon about this. It depends very much on a person's specific heart condition and medication. His view was that it was not an issue if I stayed within the guidelines. He the added "As you cannot drink much make it a decent wine" so no £4.99 bottles for me!

Note: Before somebody says I have double standards where I advise no or minimal alcohol is for conditions like AF where it is often a trigger and myopathy where it worsens the condition.

First you have to honest with yourself. How big is the glass. How many is a few If you have one can you stop yourself having another. With the third I had to say I had to have several. So I stopped drinking altogether. This worked for me. Several years later I can now have one drink and not have to have more. I don't drink now though. Feel better for it. Just my experience.
