Ten years on!

I had my Heart attack 10 years ago at the age of 58 whilst I was still working as a Baker. Well 10 years on apart from retiring 3 years ago my life has not really changed.

Yes I have in the back of my mind it may happen again, but that is where it is in the back and where it will stay. I have a few more aches and pains that come with advancing years but apart from a bad angina attack a few years ago I have not really changed over those years.

What I am trying to say is a Heart attack is not the end its just the beginning of a new life and I am enjoying every minute of it especially since I retired. We walk the Dog over the New Forest every morning, once a week I volunteer at The Eling Tide Mill Experience, one of only two working Tide Mills in the country still producing flour. We go shopping regularly, I spend time in the garden(weather permitting) and dont overdo the heavy work

For those of you at the start of your heart journey take it from me it gets better!

So nice to hear how you carry on enjoying your life but did your heart attack cause any damage Or need further tests and treatment I am happy to hear true stories like yours and let us know we can still enjoy ourselves after heart attacks thanks

Yes I had 2 stents and i think there was a little damage which shows up on test.

That’s why I have just recently had my results said severe damage which the news is still stressing me out as I don’t know wh will happen as of yet I have no symptons which is four years since I had the ha But I will try to stay positive

Wow that’s a great post Geoff. 😊 I honestly thought after my HA that was it, life was over for me. I was never given any information from the hospital about what had happened to me, just discharged after 10 days with a bag of pills.

I was waiting for a bed in another hospital, where I had one stent fitted.

Think that’s why I was in for that long? Never been given any information by the hospital, just discharged with medication.

Thanks 64 and just had echo and diagnosed with HCM thinking it's the end of the road but maybe not. Don't like stopping drinking but going to have a meal tonight with my orange juice. Lol thanks again

A quadruple bypass 20 years ago was the beginning of a new and fulfilled life interrupted only by a (serious) hiccough 7 years ago (a Sudden Cardiac Arrest). Not being a cat, I don't know how many lives I have but I am so grateful for two second chances. Every day is an extra days and every extra day is just wonderful. I remain monitored by a good cardiology team (at Hereford County) and the Cardiac Physiologists at the same hospital who interpret the messages my implanted cardiac defibrillator send via broadband to their computer. And I am looked over by a super cardiac nurse who has supported me for seven years. Like Geoff51, I feel blessed.. The NHS has been good to me and I hope the government will be good to the NHS.

Good post I had a 'down' morning today, after consistent improvement woke up with chest discomfort and feeling really fatigued and short of breath. Determined not to be beaten did my mini workout in the gym (treadmill, bike and leg weights), then floor exercises. Added (first time) a pilates warm up and gluteal exercises (will work up to the 8 sessions eventually), and feel SO much better. No one should give up
