ICD date
Hi Lurganspur
I had an ICD fitted last August, while I was a little anxious about the procedure, the actual day was fine and actually very interesting. If you haven't seen my original post of the day, the link is below.
Good luck next week.
PS - take something to read, there's a lot of sitting around!
Hi Lurganspur - my knowledge is limited to those I know who have had an ICD fitted. The latest was my 85 year old Mother In Law. She is a strong robust person but at 85 we did think she would maybe need a longer recovery period than the norm. She was in hospital for 2 nights following the procedure only because there was a delay in checking all was well with the device. Once home we had to constantly remind her to rest a little! At our insistence she took paracetamol for a few days and within a couple of weeks she really was back to her usual self. You need to remember not to raise your arm above should height for a while but keep your arm mobile - you will be given instruction on this. She told us the whole procedure was far easier than she had anticipated she had been worried but kept that to herself. I know that feeling of getting wound up and worrying about procedures. Try and distract your thoughts by thinking of something nice maybe a holiday you may go on this year whatever interests you, a good book some music deep breathing exercises etc. Remember while it's a big deal for you (I would feel the same) to the team it's a really simple everyday procedure you are going to be fine.
Hi Lurganspur
I had mine fitted Tuesday last week and like yourself very anxious before hand turns out I was worrying about nothing the procedure took about 1 hour painless , uncomfortable but you can live with that. This might sound silly but I found it on a par with going to the hygienist at the dentist, only takes a bit longer. Later on you are a bit sore but I personally didn’t use any pain relief had no probs sleeping, it’s still a bit sore and struggle to put coat on now but getting easier day by day
Hope all goes well for you good luck and stop worrying
Relax and put your trust in your specialist.
I won't lie to you do feel a little discomfort during the procedure, but the benefits far out way that small episode. I've had mine for about 8 months and don't even think about it now.
