I'm due to be visiting family tomorrow (last saw them yesterday) - but have just been told that one of the children may have scarlet fever!

I have Ischemic heart diseae and 1 stent. Should I stay away??

Sorry have to be brief. Stay away! Whilst with antibiotics it is less serious than it was one complication is pneumonia that is very dangerous to hearties!

well as one of the complications of scarlet fever is rheumatic heart disease....... there is no doubt that you should stay well away although the infected person is infectious for about seven days before the symptoms really show. The link below will give you more detail.

It is hard to acknowledge that our bodies have a less than perfect history... the doctors have their job and we have ours... listen to ur body and b it’s best activist...listen to the bells.. of course u should not go..!!! Good luck in your decision..

It is difficult but bugs are bugs and peeps should always tell you if they have a lurgy and you're lucky - they have !

Sometimes I worry so much about catching things but if I know someone is ill I would avoid going and thank them for telling me some people are ill but go out shops and other crowded places without our knowledge

Hopefully you didn't visit - I had scarlet fever as a child and it was nasty! (I sometimes wonder if it's the reason why I now have a leaky heart valve.) At the time, it was a notifiable disease (not sure if it still is) and I remember we had to tell the local library I'd had it, so they could burn the books I'd had at home at the time.

Valerie....I had scarlet fever in around 1947 ! I also have a murmur (among other things ) I was very put out at missing the Sunday School outing I don’t think that did me any harm and I did get a balloon !

Ooh - no balloons for me! But according to my mum, I was always babbling about the fairies dancing at the foot of my bed (I was 4 or 5 at the time!).

My grandson has just had scarlet fever. Apparently you are only infectious for 24 hours once you are on the antibiotics. You are most infectious before you feel poorly. And guess who was looking after her grandson then?!!
