Cardiomyopathy : Hi everyone has anyone... - British Heart Fou...

You had a heart attack some years ago and, I believe, stents fitted. In addition you were recently found to have a reduced EF. However, you are symptomless which is a positive sign. The various tests you are having will determine if there are any issues. Stop Googling and looking for problems - the stress is not good for you.
A friend's mother is over forty years post heart attack and doing well for someone in their mid-nineties. She follows the guidelines but does not worry about it!
Thank you Michael yes the stress is making me worse and that’s wh probably wh caused my ha in the beginning I try to live normal then go gp then panic sets back in worry is a illness in itself thank you Michael for answering my posts and give me some reassurance of people who live with similar conditions
Yas, Dr Google is rarely a good source of information about heart conditions! Have you seen any of the highly reassuring and reliable BHF publications - those should be your go-to:
Hi, Yasyass. It’s awful when we’re worried about something and don’t seem to be getting answers to put our minds at rest. I think it’s also very natural to worry or be anxious about our hearts. My comments from below are from our experience as my husband has a type of Cardiomyopathy. It’s a heart muscle condition which shows up on X-rays, Echos, CT scans and MRI scans. The charity Cardiomyopathy UK is a fantastic resource with a website, booklets and a nurse-run helpline too. Here’s the link
BHF are excellent too.
BUT, a couple of cautions
1. please don’t look at google in general because there’s a load a utter rubbish out there and it’ll have you 6 feet under before you know it when that isn’t the case at all.
2. don’t self-diagnose. I don’t mean this in a harsh or uncaring way, but it’s easy to let our imaginations run wild when we’re worried about something. Proper objective assessment with a qualified professional is what’s required.
I’d suggest a couple of things,
1. asking your GP for a referral for counselling to help you come to terms with your heart attack and the way you’re feeling emotionally now.
2. Keeping a daily diary detailing your meds, BP, symptoms if any, how you’re feeling physically and mentally and what you’ve been doing. Then you can see if there are any patterns and also have an objective record over a period of time to discuss with your GP.
I hope what I’ve said is helpful and I don’t sound too blunt. Best wishes for the future.
Hi Yasyass,
I was diagnosed 19 years ago with Dilated Cardiomyopathy after I noticed an irregular heart beat.
According to Google I should have been placed in a box years ago. There is a lot of out of date and bad information on the internet.
I only use Google for directions, shopping and recipes these days and only look to my GP, Consultant and this forum when it comes to my heart failure.
