Does anybody take mexiletine? I’m taking 200mg 3 times daily and sotalol 40mg twice daily. I’m just wondering does anybody have any side affects from these drugs as I’m experiencing some slight abdominal discomfort after taking each dose makes me feel uneasy and wanted to know if this is something I should worry about or just raise it with my dr when I next attend device clinic in may

Hi Mukum. The BHF website doesn't mention Mexiletine, so I assume you're not in the UK. Wikipedia (Oh dear, Dr Google) says abdominal pain is a common side effect. If it's getting too uncomfortable, I wouldn't wait until May, but ask your cardiologist if there is an alternative you could try.

Good luck!

Hi thank you for your reply. I am actually in the UK, I can only obtain them from the hospital and they have trouble getting stock so I’m guessing these are not a very common medication so I’m questioning now why I’m on these and not something else

Perhaps they're experimenting on you!!

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be happy to switch it to something else, especially as they're having trouble getting it.

How long have you been on it? Many of these drugs take a couple of months for our bodies to get used to, so the discomfort might improve over the next 2 or 3 weeks. If it doesn't, contact the hospital.

I’ve been taking them since mid November, I was on bisoprolol and amiodorone but when I went for my device interrogation It showed I’d had 33 episodes of VT in the one day so they changed me to these meds
