Hi everyone, I'm new here (1st post). Could anyone explain how xrays can show calcification of arteries? Saw GP today for xray results & that is what I was told. Must be urgent because am having ECG & blood pressure tomorrow (Wed 11 Dec), Thurs 12 Dec see GP about abdominal pains & Fri 13 Dec fasting bloods & chest xray.

Am a little bit worried because I lost both my parents & only sibling (my brother) to heart disease.

Sorry about me babbling on but now have told somebody I feel better

Hello and welcome to the forum! Calcification shows up in X-rays as shadows along the arteries. If you have arterial calcification then it is likely you have PAD (peripheral arterial disease). I developed PAD before CVD (cardio vascular disease) and believe that PAD is often a precursor to CVD. Are you by any chance diabetic?

You will probably be prescribed a statin, aspirin and maybe BP medication.

Not what you're looking for?
