I seem to remember reading a report a while back that peanut butter was not good, but can't find anything now. It makes a good snack on my whole plant based diet, which I am almost on.
In Thailand it is very expensive, so had a go at making it myself, pretty easy, but messy to clean up and about 1/3rd price. But then I know what is in it.
Maybe it was just about the salt and sugar, which is not a problem for me, but I thought there was something else. I seem to remember it was fattening, due to the process???

Peanut butter is a healthy food but, as with everything, in moderation as even too much of a good thing is not good.
There are diets forums on HU that would probably be of interest to you. Also, as you've shown a keen interest in cholesterol there's also a cholesterol forum that could also be of interest.
Peanut butter and nuts in general are good. The only problem is that they are VERY fattening. I have jar of peanut butter, and on the jar it says per 100 grams it is 611 calories. I have to seriously restrict myself, which with peanut butter is very difficult.
Thanks for the link, very interesting and is exactly my diet with the occasional bit of chocolate thrown in (lifes for living, isn't it?)I'm not really a lover of broccoli but do eat it quite a lot, it's usually the first thing I'll eat off the plate to get it out of the way! 😂
Yes you're quite right a peanut is a legume, as are brazils, walnuts, chick peas, beans etc. Very healthy low fat food. But my original link from the BHF site was to show that omega 3 & 6 both play an important part in a balanced diet.
Balance is very important, I am a very balanced person, I dribble out of both side of my mouth at the same time. How many on this forum can say that!!!?
Home made cashew nut butter is lovely. I love the M & S bags of luxury nuts but must admit one handful seems to lead to another. Peanut butter and banana, yum and avocados are now one of my favourites lovely on toast (no butter or spread) with a poached egg on top.
Yesterday I had a nutrition tip pop up on my fitbit...avocado, nuts & olive oil are a great source of healthy fats but should be limited to 5/6 teaspoons a day. Im probably over indulging & love avocado eggs for brekki and a nut & rasin snack in the evening 🤦🏽♀️
