DVT

I am a "heart failure patient" who has been on Rivaroxiban for three years. Last year I was taken off it temporarily due to internal bleeding but they couldn't find any reason for the bleeds and put me back on it in March this year.

Yesterday at A&E I was diagnosed with a suspected DVT in my left leg.

Has anybody else experienced this? I am due to fly on October 1st to Lanzarote so my much awaited and needed holiday is at risk.

Sorry to hear this. I suspect you will have to postpone your holiday as the travel insurance company probably will not cover you as complications from a DVT can be extremely serious. Your focus had to be to resolve the DVT issue with your medical team.

Thank you Michael. I kinda suspected this may be the case. I already pay through the nose for travel insurance and this may have just made foreign travel inaccessible!

Has anything occurred that lead to DVT? I am on apixoban after swap from warfarin following angioplasty _ what treatment are you on in addition to rivaroxiban which in itself should mean anticoaulated....

No that's what is so strange. I am on a phased return to work where admittedly I am sedentary and because of heart failure I don't walk as far as I did but I do get about.

The day before this started I walked at least a mile in my lunch hour.

I am also taking bumetanide, Levothyroxine, eplenerone, ezitemibe, Ivabradine, Bisoprolol and Omeprazole!

I had my Mitral Valve replaced in June but was only in hospital 24 hours. Last year I spent 7 weeks in hospital and no sign of DVT!

Fortunately my holiday was booked with Tui, not Thomas Cook....

I hope things get sorted - strangely my leg is aching at the moment (also have a holiday coming up) it is a familiar pain I had a DVT 12 years ago and have a predisposition. I also have thyroid issues - are you scheduled for a scan? Hope we both feel better soon take care

Pleased to be able to tell you that it isn't a DVT. They have no idea what caused it and I was sent home with the instruction to go back if it gets worse.

I have just spent two days in London with a lot of walking involved and a concert thrown in and the leg has reduced by 3cms!

Lanzarote here I come!

Update on the DVT episode. It turned out to be phlebitis and I have had another episode which lasted about ten days and is very painful.
