Does anybody know what symptoms you would have if you have a worn or bad mitral valve?

Bad valve symptoms ?
A friend's wife developed low stamina and breathlessness. A friend gets occasional chest pains. Everyone is different!
Sometimes there are no symptoms. Diagnosis is usually through a stethoscope In the first instance, followed by an echocardiogram.
I experience breathlessness occasionally, sometimes swimmy, lightheadedness on bending down, sometimes feel sick or tight chest on exertion....that need only be going upstairs too quickly! Although I also have a dodgy tricuspid valve. R
I suffered breathlessness and prolonged dizzy spells especially when cooking or doing the ironing. I bought a kitchen stool, thankfully now redundant following surgery last year.
Increasingly felt as if someone had pulled the energy plug out, got more and more breathless, had difficulty climbing stairs, could only walk on the flat and even then it became slower and slower, as in walk 4 steps and rest. No pain, just a slowly increasing lack of energy. Go and see your GP and ask to see a cardiologist so you can get an ECG and a stress test.
Cardiologist are much in demand, the baby boomers are showing signs of mortality, waiting lists are getting longer and queueing is become the new normal.
I have a mechanical mitral valve before it was replaced I had breathlessness extreme tiredness not much exercise tolerance hope that helps hugs sara
I had my mitral valve repaired in June. I believe it had not been functioning properly for ages but didn't really have any symptoms until February when I suddenly became exhausted while walking my dog and breathless on any kind of exertion. I began to suffer
with increasing levels of fluid retention. I saw my surgeon in April after spending 2 weeks in hospital in March, and he added me to his urgent list. The cords attaching my valve to the heart wall had all snapped and blood was going back through the valve. I did have occasional palpitations but not sure if that was connected.
Before my op I could hardly walk 20 feet and needed a wheelchair, I'm now walking about 4 miles a day.
I hope you find out the cause of your palpitations soon, are you seeing your GP?
The good part of all this is that if it is the valves, they can be repaired or changed and you will feel dramatically better after the recovery phase. Good luck with your enquiries.
