Hi my mum had a heart attack a few weeks ago she was in hospital for a week they called it a silent heart attack as she had no pain and was just vomiting a lot ..... we still a bit in the dark as what caused this as we didn’t get much answers from the hospital and if there was a reason behind this ... has anybody els had this situation before ?

My husband had a silent heart attack and the only symptom he had was a slight muscle type ache in his shoulder which he'd had for days, otherwise totally fine, he had a stent put in.

A silent heart attack means the person felt no pain but it is equally serious to any with crushing chest pains, etc.

One reason for a lack of pain can be nerve damage caused by illness/diease/etc. In your mother's case it may a loss of sensation following her major surgery.

The underlying cause can be many and various such as a blocked artery, AF. You need to ask her GP or the cardiolgy department about the underlying cause otherwise it is just speculation!

When is her ne t appointment? I think you all may have been shell shocked, the bhf nurses will be able to give you help although it won't be specific to your mums case. Best wishes to all of you especially your mum. Sheena

It’s good to see family on here that are asking questions. Women suffer heart attacks in different ways. The ladies I spoke to on the ward when I had mine were vastly different from the men. Often they had been sick (as I had); they had jaw pain and thought they may have had teeth problems. There wasn’t from any of them the classic pain in chest. The doctors don’t give information except when they are 100% sure. You will get quality information from your mums cardiac nurse, your mums gp and from speaking to the cardiologist at the hospital. 9/10 they can’t tell you why unless you have obvious factors eg a smoker. They “think” mine may have been caused by my broken leg the year before - despite being on anti -clotting medication.

Go to clinics with your mum and ask questions - you should find everyone able to answer them

Good luck

I think it must be the chemo she was on last year .... hopefully the meds she is on now can sort it all out
