Just a gentle reminder. In the community guidelines it asks members not to post publicly individual consultants' names, those of nurses or details of any cardiac team on open forum. Personal recommendations via PM are allowed. Thank you!

Surely all working within the Public Health Service are not working in secret! Of course all posts should be factual and not libellous or slanderous. However there are sufficient regulations in place to deal with transgressions.

It maybe a person wishes to commend a doctor or staff member of the health services.

I have met fantastic doctors and nurses in my journey. Also some who have no bedside manner or even basic communication skills. I never felt the need to name and shame I simply choose not to use those particular service providers again. For many years now we are told we have choice, without feedback how can people make informed choice.

We see what happens when organisations such as Stafford hospital go without proper checks and balances. Accountability to the patients is the first layer of the safety net.

A couple of months ago we were all asked to adhere to the BHF community guidelines:

where this is mentioned.

I read the guidelines earlier. Apparently you are not even supposed to mention a particular unit or team! Personal reference I can understand although I do not agree with the reasoning. However to exclude any reference to a unit or team is unreasonable and bordering on censorship. These are public funded bodies we have the right as the people who fund these services to discuss them openly in a public forum.

Not long ago a surgical unit in a London hospital was criticised due to in fighting between resident consultants! Reducing clinical effectiveness Would it have been forbidden to comment on the failings of this unit.

As far as I am aware we are a free and democratic nation. All public services are open to discussion.

I don’t wish to over egg the pudding but seeking to censor people’s discussion regarding experience of medical services is not the purpose of the moderator. The guidelines are in the main reasonable with regards to respecting people’s right to be treated equally without prejudice and without malice. Not promoting extreme practices without sound medical backing seems sensible to me. However the restriction on talking about a team or unit difficult to understand. I doubt it would stand scrutiny.

Please note I have not broken any guidelines. I do however become concerned when ordinary people’s voices are curtailed by rules or overbearing moderation (censorship)

Most hospitals allow for comments on their web sites and there are good and negative postings on them.
