Pharmacist Tip!

Hi Everyone. Just had to go to the Chemist to collect my Prescription. Pharmacist asked me how I was and asked when I was going in for the Surgery. Said I had to see the Consultant in July when he was going to go over everything with me before operating. Told him I was very nervous. He suggested that I record everything on my Phone, (obviously if the Consultant gave his permission), and that way I could take everything in properly and in my own time and when I had de-stressed lol. Thought this was an excellent idea. Just wondering if anyone else has done this? Thanks 😊

Not something I’ve thought of but a bloody good idea! I’m always wondering what it was I was told. As long as your GP agrees go!

I hadn't thought of it either. Me too, I'm the same thinking what does he mean by this, that and the other. It's a Nightmare!!

Tried this for my husbands oncology appointment but wasn’t allowed.

Have been thinking this so am going to phone Consultant's Secretary and check first.

Fab idea ... wished I had .. forgot most of the stuff told to me whilst in hospital (in a state of shock from having the heart attack!) ... it all seemed like white noise and on occasion still does (particularly the Cardiologist appointments)

Great idea. I always write my questions down I want to ask too other wise I would forget half of them. Good luck 😉

Hi there, that's a great idea but isn't always an option in my experience. I have a short term memory & processing difficulty & like lots of people my consultations can completley bamboozle me but it's the consultants decision on wether they are comfortable with being recorded or not which has been 'not' in all of my experiences, consultants & others. Still deffo worth asking though!!!

Well I think so anyway. It's worth a Shot at least. They 'Bamboozle ' me as well by the way lol 😊

Ask for copy correspondence from cardiologist to GP. It’s supposed to be standard practice but not always followed. I had a notebook when I was in hospital and made notes of everything regardless of how small. It came in handy when I saw consultant as she had forgotten some things she had told me. On hearing my version of events she checked her notes and said that’s why she told me in case she forgot lol 😂

Lol. They are just Human like us aren't they? I thought it was standard practice for it all to go back to Doctors but I will do that just in case. Thank you. He's going to be glad to see the back of me I think ha ha. He is lovely mind and he makes you feel at ease. It's just me being a bit of a Stress-Head!!

I wish I'd done that when I saw a consultant for follow-up 2 weeks ago. The other thing is I've been having health worries with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who seems to have a tumour on her adrenal gland. I wish I'd recorded the vets' comments for the tests he's done so far, he's got me completely bamboozled!!

On nevermind. Perhaps you can do it if and when you go back to see him. Also, at the Vets, poor dog :( :(

Two other variations:

1/ Only record the summary. Permission for that would be hard to refuse

2/ Take someone with you and ask them to take notes

This is interesting. I’m due to have bypass surgery and I’d really like to have a video of the procedure. My wife thinks I’m macabre but there you go. My son is a doctor so I was thinking of asking if I could get permission for him to do it but inconveniently he won’t be on the country when my op is due.

Put yourself in the shoes of the doctor. Not all of them have the self confidence and sheer expertise to relish being filmed. The doctor-patient relationship has its private side, and this is changed when you record. If you record, it means the doctor has to think more before they speak, and their speech will take into account that people other than the patient may see/hear. In the not-recorded setting there are more possibilities for real communication without fear that it will be misunderstood or taken out of context later.

Can see what you mean. Already phoned the Consultant's Secretary, she thought it was a good idea anyway but is going to ask Consultant and get back to me so will just have to wait and see!
