S-ICD vs my bra :-)

Hello!

I'm new here - just a quick question......

I have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and my risk has increased to the level where an ICD or S-ICD is required. I'm leaning more towards the S-ICD (less invasive etc) however I'm concerned about where the device sits with regards to my bra! I'm not someone who can go without and from the few pictures I can find the bottom part of the bra seems to go right across the device which I imagine might feel uncomfortable. Can any ladies who have this clarify for me? And or any other advice as to why you chose the option you did in the end?

Much appreciated :-)

Claire

Hi Claire.

I am not able to give you much help on this. My partner had an S-ICD implant 18 months ago. It took him a few months for the healing to settle but now its just like he has had it forever. I would discuss the issue with the team who are fitting the devise they will be able to reassure you that the position is likely to be lower than your bra line. Of course a ICD pacemaker type is fitted in the upper chest and wouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you take the teams advice on which is best for your circumstances.

Good luck.

Regards Ron.

Hi Claire. I've got an ICD, so can't help with the specifics of the S-ICD, but there may be a bit of leeway with exactly where the device goes. With my ICD, the surgeon agreed to make a side incision, so that the scar is covered by my bra strap. This means that the ICD is slightly further over to the left than standard. I imagine it can be similar with the S-ICD, ie a bit higher/lower/left/right. Do discuss it with the surgeon, but, as Lezzers says, we have a facebook group facebook.com/groups/7879967... . Do join us! Someone on there will be able to give a definitive answer. xx

Hi claire.. I've had an icd fitted and do find for myself that the bra strap sits to the right side of the icd and irritates me as it can push on the side of it.i too have to wear bras most times but often want to take it off as can be uncomfortable....I didn't have a choice of what I could have so make the best of it by re considering bra choice, thickness of strap etc....hope this helps

I just replied to another post regarding this very issue. I have an T-ICD, and my bra does not bother it at all, but I think placement of an S-ICD would really bother me because of my bra being over the device. Best wishes whatever you decide!
