So , my recent posts have been explaining how I have been feeling for a few weeks / months , yesterday I had a 24hr blood pressure monitor fitted as the doctor said I have high blood pressure , so today I had the monitor off and I got told that my blood pressure isn’t that bad , there’s nothing to worry about and only a few readings measured abit High, my average reading was 125/82 which I got told is nothing to worry about and she isn’t concerned , so now all I need is a follow up appointment with my GP to discuss other things as I still have the dizziness and chest pain but got told the dizziness can be caused by high blood pressure.

Anyone had similar symptoms ?

I would settle for those readings , congrats looks like you all good on that front . Hope you sort the dizziness and pain out that can be anything from diet to anxiety , maybe do a diary of diet and situations see if anything reveals a pattern

Honestly, you are only 17 years old, my alarm bells are ringing. You shouldn't feel dizzy in your age unless there is another concern. Have you had your ears checked out Ellie???? If you have a problem with your inner ear it can cause dizziness. Also chest pain and dizziness, would send you to cardiology asap, to eliminate possible problems with your heart. I would also ask for head MRI scan too to eliminate a tumerous growth. This is too easy just to wave this off Ellie. Hope your parents will be supportive to get to the bottom of your symptoms. I have 4 children and these symptoms would get me very concerned about their health Ellie.

My mum and dad are very supportive ! We have been so the GP so many times and we got the blood presssure monitor first and then the doctor said we will go from them I suffer terrible headaches anyway but had a brain scan and everything is clear , 4 months ago I did come off the pill so that may be causing the High blood pressure , I also got a puppy last July and I haven’t really been mysekf since then ,so I will have to ask my GP about getting tested to see if I may be allergic . thanks

They say my ears are fine although I haven’t had a proper test done only the light in my ear , let me add that I have never had heart problems before and also used to suffer dizziness when I was about 14 but then it just went all of a sudden , and now it’s back to the beginning , I need to make another follow up appointment and hopefully I will get sorted

Yes you may be allergic to pet hair. My 2 sons and daughter have cats. I like pets but not sure it irritates my nose a little.

If you got IBS, i would check gluten allergy out too Ellie. Check this website out please: coeliac.org.uk !

And please dont take unperscribed medication, as they could do more harm than good. Due to my heart attack i have to take prescribed medication now.

Remember you 17, changing into a woman, hormones going crazy....

Plus your IBS, not fun, and you either in 6form or working.... pressures of life and performing well can cause stress. Lack of sunshine during winter months....Praying you have the answers soon Ellie!

Yes , my dad thinks I am allergic or I may be stressing over something but I don’t feel like I am , I do go to college and have coursework due , and also resitting my maths but I’m quite chilled about it all , I do have IBS and I have changed my diet and slowly loosing weight , I have joined slimming world with my mam , I wound never take unprescribed medication , just paracetamol and ibuprofen for my headaches , and I do take buscopan for the IBS , my hormones are definitely flying around I think , and Thankyou I hope so too , the most worrying think is the dizziness , my chest pain seems to come and go all the time and lasts a full day when it comes , shall I get my heart checked out

Yes, I think you should, Ellie, get your heart checked out. Appropo slimming world.... ensure you get enough vitamins and minerals in your diet. Deficiencies can have a negative affect on your body. Have a blood test for any deficiency, which may explain your headaches. Hope you get some exercise with walking or going to the Gym as that gets your blood circulation well going and oxygen through your body. It all helps ....but I am not a doctor, wished I were sometimes haha! But my brother is so get good advice from him, sometimes too much. Right must get going... Slouching too much already. Tour De Yorkshire here and yes fun for some, but I have to work this afternoon. Would love to watch it.

Try drink more fluids to keep you hydrated, as dehydration can make you feel dizzy and give you headaches as well. I experienced this often working in a busy restaurant kitchen. Hydration is key! Also you are still young and as i said earlier, my alarm bells would be ringing if you were my daughter feeling like this!!!!

I had not picked up that you were only ¹7. Personally I feel the lower (diastolic) figure seems high for a healthy teenager. Further investigations do seem to be indicated.

Elliebutler2207 profile image
Elliebutler2207 in reply toMichaelJH

Yeah the nurse said that the diastolic number was abit high they don’t like it to go over 80 , she said it was nothing to worry about , and the doctor will speak to me in more detail about it and may want to monitor me more , I will have to ask about a heart monitor

The figure that comes to mind is 70 - 75 for someone your age. Please don't use Doc Google as there are a lot of out-of-date guidelines that suggest a higher value, but then the same figure was used from cradle to grave!

Thankyou , I am focusing on changing my whole diet in order to lower it

I haven’t had any tests on my heart apart from the doctor taking my pulse she didn’t say anything , so that’s good news right ?

Me too one step forward to seeing what the problem is

Ellie

If your doctor felt that there was a problem with your heart you would know about it quickly. Yes give it time

Take care

That reading is good but something must be causing your symptoms. It’s easy to say but try and relax a little. Keep calm about everything. Keep a diary of “ episodes “, when you can articulate how you felt, what happened, what you were doing at the time , etc. And then you yourself can monitor what happened, maybe what triggered an event - this could help if there is an allergy. There is so much going on at your age; hormones, exams, peer pressure, relationships with friends and boyfriends, parents, siblings, and many other things. IBS itself brings a bag full of symptoms to the party too. Keep with slimming world. I did it several years ago and and stuck to their diet since. You will get to know what triggers IBS, and you should avoid those foods. Take care .

Elliebutler2207 in reply toBilliewizz

Yes it’s all about the new diet , I have changed it since finding out about IBS I keep off these foods that trigger it and the dizziness is just something that annoys me the most it effects my day to day life , but hopefully get sorted soon

Thankyou x

Hi Elliebutler2207. It is worth asking your doctor for a copy of your blood test results and check to see if you were tested for vitamin B12, folate and D3. These three vitamins are really important and involved in many processes in the body. There is another forum on ‘healthunlocked’ ‘Pernicious Anaemia Society’ that has a huge amount of information on b12 deficiency that might be worth checking.

I hope you get well again soon.

Elliebutler2207 profile image
Elliebutler2207 in reply toJanma123

When I go I am going to ask exactly what I got tested for , she said everything came back normal , Thankyou

Janma123 profile image
Janma123 in reply toElliebutler2207

If you ask for a copy then you can see what was done and you can spot any changes between tests. ‘ Normal’ can have a wide range and something can be in range but on the low side that is causing your problem.

Good luck
