Advice for breathlessness while lying down?

Hi, I'm 28 and I've been having heart issues. I've not got a diagnosis yet, but as I'm symptomatic I've been started on beta blockers to slow down my heart. I ended up in a&e this morning because I'm now breathless when I lie down with pressure pain in my chest - it feels like someone is sitting on me. They ruled out anything acute, even a heart attack and just said that what ever is wrong is getting worse and they couldn't do anything just now.

But is there any advice on how to help with the breathlessness when I'm lying down as I feel so suffocated. I've tried to prop myself up on three pillows, but it's not enough. Any advice would be appriacted until I get this sorted. My sats and HR are both fine so I'm not actually being deprived of oxygen, it just feels like it.

Many thanks,

Natalie

You could discuss it with your doctor and/or call the BHF Heart Helpline on 0300 330 3311 (office hours) and talk to a cardiac nurse about it.

It might be a side effect of the drugs. Read the leaflets that comes with them and if it is a side effect see your GP about changing it.
