I have had a fair amount of chemotherapy in recent years then had a bad bout of pneumonia 2018 and was in hospital for a couple of months. My ejection fraction went down to 30% and was diagnosed with heart failure. Recently I had another echo scan which showed a 45% ejection fraction. When you read on the Internet about your fate with heart failure you are almost too scared to close your eyes at night in case you don’t wake up in the morning. I can’t have any devices fitted to help the heart pumping because of the 45% ejection fraction. I am on Ivabradine tabs with Carbosisteine and also take Furosemide daily. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this subject. Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum! Firstly, your EF has improved which is a good thing. Secondly, myself and others often advise not to use Doc Google as much of the information is out of date and, at times, total rubbish! It is best to stick to the BHF and NHS websites. Over the years treatments and procedures constantly improve - the average age for bypass surgery had increased by ten years! A lot of so called research is based on flawed research and misinterpretation of the results. One EF study out in the would suggests that 50% die within five years. The sample size was small, average age high and cause of death unrecorded. A control sample (if there had been one) might have had similar results because of age related conditions and accidents. Put your trust in your cardiologist, enjoy life within the boundaries of your condition and stop reading Doc Google carp!
