Hi I'm 58 at in past 5 years had 4 HA 1 major Al had stents plus I HA prior to this time an recovered quite well but that last one in March 2018 took me a long time to get and come to terms with and I an 100% sure this is due to work.

Over past 6 months thinks have got worse and have my ad some mistakes which I was open about but this made no difference I have asked about reduced hors but have to apply but because of the want to cut from 46 to 30 to 25 they are are saying that I may have to change roles and work to suit them not me.at present I am getting worked up about going to work and also gave applied for roles but with health history it is not easy and I have been honest with application s and at interviews.

I know my GP would sign me off also have spoken rehab nurse as we are on first name terms after 5 recovery sessions .

What would advice be an would I be able to get any support if I was to be finished frough I'll health by my employer who not that supportive

Thanks for reading

If you are in a union talk to your rep about it.

You might find that changing roles is less stressful and the reduced hours will give you more time to rest, get your exercise in and get into healthy cooking. If you have a garden, you could grow some of your own food.

"I need to enjoy life and not die at work" Spot on!

I would be careful about getting signed off by your GP and only accept the sign off if it is absolutely necessary. As your attendance record would not stand you in good stead for another position with your current employer. However, having said that did they not do a “return to work” assessment and refer you to their Occupational Health provider ?? If you go to hse.gov.uk and look for Managing sickness absence and return to work guide. The other option is to talk to Citizens advice. My thoughts are that they should have gradually reintroduced you back to work and monitored your progress. Depending on how long you have been employed, that if it is felt that you are not able to continue in your current role, that they should find you a suitable position to move too. However it may not be one that you want, but the fact they have offered you one is sufficient to cover their remit. The hospitality industry is a hard work.. I was in it for 15 years!

Hi they did slowly re introduced back but it was basically a tick box exercise in general

They have forgotten what put me off in first place I would like let a new role but I think my health history would go against me even though It is no supposed too

I am going to see what next few weeks bring and see what happens as even my work colleagues are concerned

As I said before it is better be happy and alive than stay and wait for the invetable as I know that is what is going to happen

Thanks for reply

Have they not offered you an alternative?

No nut within my role as I have been here prior to hotel opening and control all plant and compiance issues and if they were to offer me something out would not be in my remit but they would want me to deal with issues if I was dropping just a few hours it would be fine but st present I do 45 hrs standard plus callouts and want to reduce to 25

Also if any new employer is holding your health history against you then that is discrimination. The other thing to consider is that if they are already breaking employment law at interview stage, I doubt they would be a particularly good employer in the future.

Hi all in response to this I have now asked for 25 hours per week and it is under consideration so we will wait and see
