Don’t think there’s a straight answer to that. I’ve heard some people last 30 years and others block in months.

A former colleague was at about twenty years when we lost contact. On the other hand others have had issues after a year or so. This seems a mixture of bad luck for some and others who do not make the lifestyle changes. If you haven't done so see your GP asap!

I've had my 4 for 10 years with no problems.

I think the issue is that you have not changed your lifestyle sufficiently and the pains are a wake up call. It maybe that your original stent is failing or that other arteries are becoming blocked and giving you the start of angina. Think about taking up a plant based diet as characterised by no animal foodstuffs or products (animal proteins or fats), low fat, low sugar and low salt. Look at Knivesoverforks or nutritionfacts.org. Remember drugs address the symptoms only not the causes and only you can change your lifestyle. Your body is telling you to act now. All the evidence for healthy hearts and minds is showing that veg, beans, grain, fruit nuts and seeds are the foodstuffs that not only repair chronic heart disease but prevent it worsening and better still, preventing it happening in the first place. Your BP is probably on the high side so you ought to talk to your GP.

How have you come to that conclusion from me asking one simple question. Six years I've lived with stents with no problems until now.

I was offering a viewpoint not an expert opinion. I think you should be talking to your GP. The original stents may still be working but the onset of chest pain may suggest new blockages, so you need a reassessment by a cardiologist .

There are a number of things that contribute to arteries (and stents) blocking up. Cholesterol is one of them BUT without cholesterol artery/stent blocking can't happen. To reduce your cholesterol, eat some nuts:

To reverse your heart disease I recommend that you watch the film "Forks Over Knives". It will show you that you can clear out your arteries. It is on a website of the same name, Netflix, YouTube. It is about medical dietary research, including a massive study of 800,000 Chinese people. You might find it helpful, I did.

The ideal BP is 120/80. Mine has been as high as 240/140 but went down to 190/100 with treatment in 2016. I still had a mini-stroke in 2017 though. I started a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) lifestyle in March 2018. My BP is now 120/80.

The ideal cholesterol is below 5. Mine was 6.5 for years, nothing budged it until this diet. It is now 3.7.

My weight was 14.5st and is now 12.5st, the same as when I was in my twenties.

Wow you done really well. Must admit changing my diet is hard as got a sweet tooth! Also being on sick pay leaves finances tight. To afford the food I need for my health is challenging. People tend to forget, that not everyone has the privelege to buy the food we need to change our diet over night literally.

Especially hospital diet can be limiting at times as you haven't got the choice of food for your particular health condition. I must watch this film fork over knives. I don't want another heart attack and want my cholesterol down as well. Its 5.9 now. Secondly got problem in my left leg which indicates peripheral vascular disease. Stops me from walking properly. Otherwise feel okay. Got hospital appointment for MRI Scan and Stent procedure for my leg soon in May.

Its good to share stuff here. Gonna check your links too on here.

We tend to buy in bulk to keep costs down. Lots of Amazon searches and spreadsheets to compare prices/weight.

Hi Justin. I have 3 stents due to a heart attack on 26 February. Needed emergency treatment and then another stent procedure, Angioplasty, on 18th of March. Not sure how long they last but hopefully as long as possible. Cause you are worried especially when you experience chest pains. I would really recommend you to speak to your GP urgently if they getting bad Justin. Make an appointment soon okay. Then he can refer you back to your cardiologist for tests. Please don't leave it too long. Hope you get this sorted soon.
