EXERCISE IN DCM

Respected dear colleagues,

Diagnosed with DCM with LVEF of 39 % in May 2018. On medications, low salt and 1 litre daily fluid restriction. Suffered from heavy fatigue, shortness of breadth, depression & loss of appetite. Lost 10 kg weight. Gradually improved my walking daily and correspondingly symptoms started to diminish in six months. On date able to walk 4 kms daily without any problem but my LVEF is reduced to 33 %. Bp is around the clock around 90/60 and sugar/ lipids are very normal. Before a month had two episodes of PND and a slight increase in diuretic had settled it too. Gradual weight gain is seen for more than a fortnight. When I play table tennis at an intensive speed ( former state player) I sweat a lot and on the next day morning loose considerable amount of weight. But while playing the game I exceed my permitted maximum target heart rate, so for every three minutes of intensive game I avail two minutes rest (as we practice in rotation) & continue like this for nearly one hour. I don't have fatigue, dizziness or pain but palpitations are felt during those every three minutes of intensive play and returns back to normal during the two minutes rest.

Is it correct to continue or am I overdoing myself? Whether the repurcussions are beneficial or would be detrimental? As of now feeling very much normal everyday with BABA'S (ALMIGHTY'S) blessings.

Kindly guide me as to whether to continue playing intensive table tennis or remain content with walking where I find no palpitations or any discomfort. My intention to work out more is to sweat out and get rid of fluids and improve my LVEF. I am 60 yrs male.

Please guide me notwithstanding I am repeatedly raising this issue.

With regards,

M. Vivekanandan

Hello. Have you seen the exercise information on the Cardiomyopathy UK website? It’s really interesting and if it doesn’t answer your questions perhaps have a chat with their nurses. Here’s the link

Your Cardiologist will be able to guide you too .
