Hi there .... I had an ICD fitted 8 years ago and will be getting a replacement fitted soon as battery is finally running out. The operation to fit it was very quick, about an hour, and I was sent home the same day with a district nurse visiting for a few days to change dressing for me. Feels a little odd for a week or so but then you begin to ignore it and can get on with life. No need to worry. Good luck
Awww thank you hope your well
Julie, I’ve got heart failure too, but don’t need device or surgery yet. Live very well with it now I’ve adjusted to the ‘new’ normal. If you haven’t found it yet, have a look at Pumping Marvellous. It’s specifically for HF patients and families/carers, and has a very active closed Facebook group which is very supportive and helpful.
All the best
Gary
Thank you hope you keep well
Hi Ju23b I too have HF and ICD fitted it is a very quick procedure and all done within a day normally sent home same day it does take a while to get used to the device but its there as a safety net so will help with your fears of your HF . You should feel a little discomfort for a week or so but as long as you take it easy doing things you will be ok and once the wound site has healed you will feel better in jour self having it there you have your own personal zapper if anything were to happen. I have had a few discharges but would rather live with that than not to have had it fitted it does what it is ment to do simply a little life saver .
Aww thanks for replying
