Hello everyone. I’ve had 2 years of anxiety due to being diagnosed as having had a heart attack causing a severe heart arrhythmia then recently an MRI that showed an ischaemia followed by an invasive angiogram that finally said I had ischaemic heart disease but not requiring a stent. My anxiety was worsened by the angiogram as I have a major needle phobia. My problem now is general anxiety and wondered if The BHF had a councillor service or any other support groups? My GP has told me it’s a well known phenomenon that heart patients develop anxiety but there seems nothing offered when I asked my cardiologist for psychological help.

Hi. I saw the Cardiac Rehab Nurses at my hospital this week and they have given me details of how to access psychological support. It may be an idea to contact your local team and ask for their advice - they usually know more about this side of things than the doctors or consultants do. Good Luck.
