Sight problems

Hi, I had a heart attack 30th Jan, stent fitted, very ill, only just beginning to feel human again. I am on Eplerenone, Clopidogrel, Furosemide, Candesartan, Warfarin.

I’ve always had occasional migraine, a genetic link, for the last few weeks I have been experiencing aura without any sickness or headache, I’ve never had this before, it always starts in the inner corner of one or both eyes and spreads over the whole eye.

It can last a couple minutes or as long as an hour, yesterday the zig zag was rust coloured, never been like that before. It can reoccur all day or I can have several days free of it.

Does anyone else experience this, if so what causes it. I find it very disconcerting.

This sounds like what I know as a visual migraine - its very disturbing when it first happens but isn't painful or harmful. I don't know the cause (I'm not sure anyone does). If its an ongoing concern I suggest you contact your GP

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I’m inclined to think it’s connected to migraine but wonder if it’s a side effect of one of the drugs I’m on?

I had to come off Ivabradine as I was having serious visual disturbances.

Hi VelvetSky,

I don't know if this is of any interest to you:

When I was in my teens I used to occasionally get migrane or what I thought of as migrane ... severe headache and strange multicoloured/kaleidoscopic artifacts in my vision. It would start off with a cresent moon shaped object low down in the left field of vision and then over a few moments drift to the right and then disappear. The whole event would last 10, 20 minutes. As I grew older the headaches stopped, I very very rarely get a headache now, but I still get the visual effects.

Obviously in my case these visual disturbances are not related to any sort of cardiovascular condition or associated medication; that's not to say that some medication side effects couldn't cause migrane type auras.

Regards,

Phil.

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply. It's just annoying if you want to drive anywhere or do work on the computer. It wouldn't be too bad if it only happened infrequently but some days it's on and off all day. It only started after the heart attack. I've just been to see the heart failure nurse and she doesn't really know, she thinks it could be the medication but doesn't know which one.

Hi VelvetSky,

Yes, I can see how that might be a problem for you.

It's not so prominent for me; the first I know of it is that I'll start misstyping things for no apparent reason and then realise that I can't see properly.
