Time to stop clopidogrel
Hi there,
it is prescribed post heart attack to help thin the blood and prevent thrombosis. Commonly stopped after a year unless you have specific requirements
I've been led to believe from day one by my consultant that I will be taken off clopidogrel after approx 1 year dependent on how well my body has taken to my stent.
Sounds about par for the course to me.👍🏼
Hi madhuvaishu
Yes that's correct and following NICE guidance, after a stent you will go onto what is known as dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin and clopidogrel) but after a year, you will stop the clopidogrel and just continue with aspirin.
Hope this helps!

Clopidogrel is the only medication I am on. My doctor thinks that I am on them for life. That might be because of the reaction I had to aspirin.
Yes, same for me a year after my triple heart bypass it’s already on my prescription script that Clopidogrel finishes in May.

This is not always the case to cease after 12 months. Your individual circumstances should be evaluated and a decision made on that basis.
DAPT score is used in some places to determine course of action.
You can find a means of calculating this and many other things on the free app MD CALC.
But I would rely on my cardiologists and GP.
I use the app as it has a very good cholesterol conversion
