I have a mechanical heart valve and have been self testing my INR since 2012 with a Coaguchek. I have always used the yellow Accu Chek XL lancets, but now they have been discontinued. I have been given white Accu Chek lancets but they have a smaller gauge so they produce less blood. Now I keep getting Error 5 messages because the lancets are unsuitable for INR testing, they are designed for blood glucose checking.
Has anyone else had this problem, or got any lancets they recommend?

I've been using the white lancets for over a year. With careful use, they aren't causing me a problem. Perhaps go back to your anticoag clinic for a catch up with a nurse?
Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll persist with the white lancets, and I still have a few yellow ones if I get desperate. I'll try changing the depth on my clicker, it's currently at 3. Unfortunately my anticoagulant clinic is very short staffed so can take weeks, sometimes months to reply to emails. That's another story ...
Being Type I diabetic I carry out multiple daily blood tests for my BG (blood glucose) level. My previous meter needed considerable more blood than the current one. This was an easy adjustment to make as the lancing device allows you to adjust the depth. Speak to your pharmacist.
acuchek lancets are still available from couguchk uk at £2.35per box ,i had the same prob as you chemist they were no longer available whitch is not so,i normaly order 2 or 3 boxes at a time.your post is a timely reminder I am just going to order another 2 boxes
I have just ordered two boxes, and was pleasantly surprised to see no shipping fee. I have also an email to their customer service centre saying that I find the white lancets less suitable, so please not send them. I was a little concerned that although the picture on the website shows the XL lancets, my confirmation screen said Softclix not Softclix XL.
Ha ha the customer service desk are going to think I’m a bit eccentric.
glad I could help.some people seam to think the newer machine uses a different lancing pen but it does not,its the same pen that may be the prob, did you know if you are on long term warfarin you are vat exempt for the lancets
yours werd
ps it must cost as much to post them as it does the lancets
