Hi all, is it normal to have a strange feeling in your throat, mainly at night and when lying down, with Myocarditis and will it subside when the symptoms improve.

Thanks, Pete.

Hi Triride. I had the same and for me it was anxiety. It faded over time but took a while. Felt like I had something stuck in there. Mine was most of the time though not just lying down.

Peppermint tea at bedtime helped me. It’s an acquired taste!

Thanks for the reply Rbrealey!

Glad to hear your recovered.

Was it Myocarditis you had and how long roughly did it take to get back to normality?

I only found out I had it through the arrhythmias it caused which led to my ablation (4 wks ago).

Can't believe how much it has taken out of me, can just about manage a 4 mile walk at 3mph,

This time last year I was running on the fells!

I suppose it's patience and not trying to push it too much.

Glad I found this site, it makes it a lot easier to deal with speaking to people who have experienced the same conditions!

Hi, I had myocarditis in October 2017 & was very ill, in hospital nearly 3 weeks and still not 100% but slowly & surely improving. Recent doubling og beta blockers is helping.

I had pain/ uncomfortableness in my neck/throat as you describe. Also lots of chest pain both improved a couple of months after diagnosis.

Many people on here talk about strange feelings in there neck, really feeling heart beat etc. You might like to do a such on key words, myocarditis, neck pain etc & read some past posts for more info & advice. You are doing VERY well walking 4 miles 👏🏼 im sure you will get back to full fitnessbut listen to your body and don’t rush it. Wishing you the very best of luck.

Hi HHH2017!

Glad to hear your a lot better!

Thanks for the info on the throat issue I posted.

I definately think its an anxiety thing as today i've been busy doing things which has taken my mind off the Myocarditis and not felt it as much.

I looked it up on different sites also and it seems to be one of the side effects of Myocarditis.

Never realised how much the brain plays a part in physical wellbeing.

I'm determined to stay positive until the Myacarditis has gone!

All the best in your final recovery phase HHH2017☺

Hi, I've just been diagnosed with myocarditis and I'm getting the throat discomfort too! And feeling my heart pound, especially at night. Did anything work for you? Also, how are you getting on now with it all.

Hi Mathew,

Sorry to hear your diagnosis it can be a bit daunting and a lot to take in when it hits you out of the blue!

My throat discomfort has slowly got better overtime no more sharp pains in throat now just a very dull feeling which sometimes is hardly noticeable.

Not sure if you just get use to it being there or it does actually improve?

I also felt pounding heart at night, but again I think anxiety had a part to play with me and this has got better over time to a point were I don't notice it now.

I have been taking bisoporol 1.25mg for over 2 years now which has helped I would think.

Are you on medication?

My fitness has improved no end over the 2 years but took it very very easy initially just steady walking and swimming when baths were open!

I did 8 weeks of rehab which helped no end mainly mentally in knowing what the experts thoughts were in fitness and pushing it.

Tonight I've just done 9km on treadmill 2km intervals with x3 1k efforts on concept 2 rower.

Max heart rate was 160 but average over session was 119.

Some days heart rate a bit more unstable than other days but then just take it easier.

I use to race competitive on the fell running but had to stop due to the Myocarditis and VT issues.

Have you got arrhythmia issues?

Main thing is like most say on this site...listen to your body :)

All the best, Pete

Thanks so much Pete. Great to read that you're back exercising again. Some light at the end of the tunnel is encouraging.

I'm not any heart medication as my function was not impaired. Although my MRi scan showed high LGE? Which I think means inflammation/scarring. I'm praying this is reversible and at my 3 month MRi there is some improvement. At the moment I'm just on pain relief for the discomfort/heaviness I still feel over my heart and left shoulder - ibuprofen (controversial i know) and paracetamol. Colchicine was stopped as I was discharged as the docs didn't think there was any pericarditis element and just purely myocarditis.

I'm just so exhausted at home. Occasionally short of breath. And anxious with how this will all end. This forum has helped somewhat. Good to hear from others who are further down the journey with myocarditis, as mine sadly has just begun.

Hi Matthew,

Yes,I also had scarring and a low LVEF under 30%.

This was a suprise to me having always kept fit and never smoked or had a bad diet.

I went for the 3 month MRI and it had improved to 42% RVEF 50%+.

The subsequent echo scans were not good,no real improvement so an MRI scan was deemed necessary.

I still await results over 6 months later!

I just crack on with work (Engineer) and a steady regular fitness program.

I was also advised to have a ICD fitted due to my low LVEF but the Consultant Cardiologist scrapped it at the last minute thinking I would improve naturally without it ....so far so good!

I would be very confident you will make a full recovery based on what you have told me.You are still early on in your journey both mentally and physically but believe me it Will get better!

All the best,Pete.
