I have angina and did not have to use my spray for some months, but recently I've had to use it twice. Two questions if anytone can advise please: Firstly should I use it whenever I feel pain/discomfort in my heart? , and secondly how often to others have to use the spray?

Hi James223

I use my spray when I feel the chest pain is unbearable but was advised by my doctors to use as soon as the pain comes on.As for how often I would think we are all different as to when our pain comes on .John

My GP advised to use it whenever I feel is necessary. I used it twice in 3 months before angioplasty, never since. I do take it with me when I go for a run, just in case.

The theory is if you get chest/angina pain then you should use your GTN Spray, if after 5 minutes the symptoms have not subsided then use it again. If after another 5 minutes it has still not subsided then dial 999.

I keep a spray in my pocket, another next to the bed, one in the car and one at work just to be on the safe side. The one in my pocket is peppermint flavoured and does not give me the dreaded headache too much.

At my lowest I knew that if I did anything energetic I would get Angina so I took my GTN tablets (didn't have the spray back then) before I started. This was every day so using it a few times over weeks isn't a problem.

Hi James, I feel it is best to use the spray when you get chestpains. I have sometimes put it of for a while and then it seems to take longer for me to feel better. Last week I had to use it twice, the first time for months and have been ok since, so I keep one in my bag when I go out, just in case.
