Unless you understand all of the terminology, this link, whilst comprehensive, probably isn't going to help. As I understand it (as a non medic) its something to do with electrical signals on an ECG. You really need to talk to your GP to get chapter and verse.

Hi Willgray,

The axis of the ECG is the major direction of the overall electrical activity of the heart. It can be normal, leftward (left axis deviation, or LAD), rightward (right axis deviation, or RAD) or indeterminate (northwestaxis).

The causes of right axis deviation vary and can include-

• a normal finding in children and adults

•right ventricular hypertrophy

•chronic lung disease even without pulmonary hypertension

•anterolateral myocardial infarction

•left posterior hemiblock

•pulmonary embolus

•Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome - left sided accessory pathway

•atrial septal defect

•ventricular septal defect

It is important to go through your ECG with your healthcare practitioner so that they can explain it to you in detail.

Take care,

Emily
