I first had atrial fibrillation 2017 just got home from work and within 10 minutes in an ambulance 24 hours later sent home with pills and told to go back to work in a few days, next a MRI . For the next year no real problems apart from feeling sick and tiredness it was a big rush a just didn't understand why me. All started again Oct 2018 Afrib again at work taken to hospital again treated this time by cardioversion and sent home, 8 days later again my worst spell of Afrib very painful this time treated by flecainide pill in pocket, still tuck 4 3/4 hours to correct my heart beat had to be checked at hospital because of chest pains all clear that was yesterday. I have read some of your post just to see what we all go through.

I do understand how you feel. I had three years of AFib which made me feel like I was dying during bad attacks and I had four cardioversions and two ablations before in the end, I had a dual pacemaker and although I still have AFib and take blood thinners to the end of days, I have practically no symptoms. Throughout the bad period I was on Flecainide twice daily and it did help considerably. So take them as prescribed without any worries that they don't help, because they do. Sometimes I can feel the flutter though, and when I do, I just take a Flecainide as and when I feel it necessary. Often now it is as little as one or two a month. My husband also has constant AFib and although he has not been prescribed these, he swipes one of mine and proclaims he feels better! They steady your heartbeat and lessen symptoms. You don't say whether you are in intermittent or constant AFib.

You don't say your age, but I wonder if you are a younger person. It is a hard road with AFib and there are many treatments at all stages and finding out which is the best for you will probably take time and cooperation with the hospital and doctors. My own end treatment is considered a bit drastic (AV node ablation and pacemaker) but it worked for me but only because other methods failed. That is not to say that maybe a single ablation would not work permanently for you as for others, if suggested, as it probably will be at some stage - so many things get tried with this and that drug, and various procedures. Cardioversion lasted only a few days for me.

You would probably be classed as symptomatic, that is fully aware and suffering pain and side effects from the condition. My husband has had permanent AFib over twenty years now and doesn't feel a thing, only the odd flutter when he asks for one of my Flecainide pills! So you have maybe a long road of all sorts of ups and downs, but it is good to remember that AFib is not life threatening if you take your blood thinners, even if it feels like it is. I do hope you find a solution which works for you. Be patient, you will - and take the Flecainide to help on the way.
