Coping with depression

I had a second heart attack about seven weeks ago. Not helped by the fact my wife has recently been diagnosed with cancer. She's not likely to survive. I've been busy sorting out benefits, as her pay from her work as a teacher has ended. Keeping the house going and general jobs haven't helped, being stressed in particular. Our family isn't close at hand, my parents-in-law live in Bournemouth but come up on occasion to see my wife. My daughter is in Worcester and we are relying on our church for support. I'm feeling depressed with all this plus my own heart problems. I just need help and support to get me through all this. It's not easy.

Hi there,

I am so sorry to hear of your problems. Please speak to your gp, there is help available to you and your wife, counselling etc., also try your local Macmillan cancer support group they will be able to assist as well.

Good luck

Mark

Hi Julius I cannot imagine how you and your wife are feeling. Its a difficult time for you having to focus on your wife as well as your own rehabilitation. You should take up the offer of rehab as that will help you in your recovery which you need and it will give you a source of extra support. I have a few suggestions of other help that you can access. Apologies if you already know about them. Have you been in touch with Macmillan? They have access to financial support as well as emotional support their site is

macmillan.org.uk/informatio...

Also Marie Curie have a support network link here.

mariecurie.org.uk/help/help...

The BHF have a helpline that you can call and there will be local groups in your area as well and are nationwide so wherever you live there will be one nearby

You might like to discuss with your GP who will be able to refer you for appropriate support as well.

This is an outstanding site and I know others will be along to offer help and support as well.

Sending positive thoughts love and prayers to you and your wife. Take care

Zena

My heart goes out to you both. Have you thought of asking your wife’s teaching union for help and advice? They can be very supportive.
