I'm now 2 years on since Cardiac Arrest and am desperate to get back running and cycling but I've been advised that my max heart rate is 109bpm and I can obviously soon get it up and above that. I need to know how long I can sustain it above the max I've recently been cycling and climbed a big hill and my HR went up to 127 for about 5-10 mins and I felt fine. I probably need to speak to my Cardiologist to get the details but I really don't want to bother him. I don't have an ICD and no intrusive work was done just a quick clearing of a small artery in my heart. Any info on this would be much appreciated

Heart Rate
Hi there,
That seems extraordinarily low, and suggests you are 92 years old given a base of 220, less age then look at 85% of that as your maximum. My own would be around 137.
I don't know your history, who gave yoj this advice and when? I would suggest you need to speak to your cardiologist and / or your gp
Good luck
Mark
Cheers Mark
I'm only 54 so my my max HR works out at 166 and 85% of that is 141 which is probably a bit more realistic for me and I have recently pushed it up to 130 whilst out cycling up hills so I can't understand why there quoting only 109 for me unless it's because of the Beta blocker and BP tablets. I'm gonna contact my Cardio Physio trainer tomorrow for some more info. I will obviously take there advice and if it's only 109 then so be it.
I would see the doctor. Then meet with trainer. You may need to do some alternative days where you just walk. I did that before surgery. Now I’m starting all over this week with walking, hopefully back at gym in 2 months. It’s Physio for 6 sessions. I have to learn about the new heart. Here’s hoping I can get back on the rowing machine, but for a while it will be legs.
I worked with my doctor and cardiologist on this. What I did was get their advice on slowly building up and I did all my 'testing' they prescribed in the gym on an exercise bike and treadmill where first aid was readily available if needed. Its a great confidence booster to run 5km in the gym before doing it on the road. Have to remember though that on the road you have weather extremes, undulations etc that can push your rate up.
hossop69, take your time. You have been very ill and need to look after yourself. You will get fit again just take your time over it. CardiacManOz gave some good pointers.
Ahha that max HR again, would this ever be addressed!
