Hello - I have been diagnosed with Cardiac Syndrome X and wonder if there are any support groups I may join
Cardiac Syndrome X: Hello - I have been... - British Heart Fou...
Cardiac Syndrome X
Hi Martyred,
Cardiac syndrome X is an historic term for Microvascular angina which is the term now used by the BHF. It can also be called Coronary Microvascular dysfunction CMVD or Non obstructive coronary heart disease.
It is a challenging condition as so few Cardiologists have much knowledge about the condition or how to treat it.
Unfortunately there is no support group at present in the UK but there is a Facebook group
facebook.com/nonobstructive...
It is not a benign harmless condition. I suggest you need to educate the Cardiologist who is still using the term CSX it suggests they are not upto date.

I hope this helps
I started 7 years ago with that diagnosis but like milkfairy says the modern name is microvascular disease. If you search inspire and then womans heart there is a comunity understanding microvascular disease, very useful and a lot of good posts, infomation and links. they will then introduce you to the face book page.
Even Prof Collins has moved on.....

Thank you Milkfairy. I am awaiting an appointment for Prof Collins clinic and details of his drop-ins
Well do make sure he writes Microvascular angina on your clinic letter to your GP and local Cardiologist.
I have lived with vasospastic angina causing Microvascular angina and Coronary artery spasms for 6 years.
It is trial and error for which is the best treatment for you.
Prof Collins will acknowledge your pain which is very important.
Good luck
Hi MARYFRED , you can find your local Heart Support group via the BHF here: bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
Here's a few links with further information on microvascular angina (also known as cardiac syndrome x) which might be helpful

Hi Helen,
Whilst local Heart groups are a really important source of support there is such a lack of knowledge about Microvascular angina amongst Cardiac nurses and Cardiologists many patients with MVA go under recognised and do not have access to these groups.
They are told they are not living with a ' real heart condition ' or a form of pseudo angina.
This something I was told many years ago.
Whilst this attitude is beginning to change with the update of the information on the BHF's website about MVA there are still many individuals on the healthunlocked site struggling to access the care they need.
