I have a 5cm Aortic root. I was scheduled for a saving valve/root repair on the 9th June. I had another recent CT with contrast and it appears the root size is exactly the same and could have possibly even reduced ever so slightly. Anyway, i am scheduled another CT scan and a camera down my throat (deep joy) to check valve efficiency in August. If there is any increase on the next CT etc surgery will be scheduled for late September/early October. My surgeon considers everything considered the risk factors at present favours being a little cautious. It seems the risk of surgery slightly outweigh the risk of rupture or dissection. I very much have mixed feelings but i have to go with the surgical teams judgement. I did have the feeling that if i had expressed a wish to go ahead with surgery now they would have accepted that although with reservations as to the necessity for surgery just now. You do have to trust the expert's judgement sometimes. Cheers Roy

Hi Roy,

I agree, the uncertainty of when, or even if they're going to operate can make you feel a bit suspended in time, unable to get on with life!

You do hear the phrase 'your life in their hands' a lot but it's so true in this case. I feel it's very reassuring though if the experts are being very cautious, giving your situation a great deal of thought.

I try to put the thought of the long wait from my immediate thoughts, or else I start to feel like I'm in a never-ending queue! Enjoy your summer and try not to worry too much about what will be decided in Autumn.

All the best of luck ☺

If surgery is put off it’s normally safe and to make u fink is the reason I’ve been told it can be put off.
