Complete AV heartblock

I was alone at home and collapsed (thank God for mobile phones) and was rushed into hospital with a very low heart rate. Overnight in hospital my heart rate dropped to 17ppm and was given an emergency pacemaker.

I have read all the pacemaker information both from the hospital and online. I was doing some light training beforehand, due to other medical problems (RA and trapped nerves in lower back) and was wondering when I should return as it still scares the life out of me to upset the pacemaker?

Hi Pete

When are you due your pacemaker check up? If it’s soon, ask them then what you can do, but if it’s a while off, give them a ring.

I had a pacemaker fitted after I developed complete heart block following aortic valve replacement, so my situation was slightly different as I was obviously recovering from surgery as well. But I was told to take it easy until I had my first check up, just for them to make sure everything was still in place and working properly.

Hope this helps.

Wendy
