Hi all I am new here.

I am 57 and have had several incidents over past 10 years. Including 1 elective angioplasty with stent1 angiogram pressure test and 4 heart attack’s the last one being 2 weeks ago.

I have high cholesterol but diet and medication have brought this right down along with lifestyle changes.this last incident came out of the blue and is 4 years since any other issues. Work has been busy over past 12 months and it has been stated that this my have tripped incident.at moment I am of and have flute note for 4 weeks but in past have been back to work part time after 2 weeks but this time I am going to listen to go and cardiac rehab advice and take enough time away from work.

I seem to be very tired sleeping from around 10 plus hours overnight .

Sorry for long post but what are thoughts re amount time off needed and way forward .

HI Helen,

six weeks off I believe is now the norm. Speak to you GP or Cardiologist about cardiac rehab classes as well.

Sleep, rest and try and get some exercise, walking to start, just to build up. Rest is vital, naps, plenty of them, rest when tired.

Hi Helen I had a cabg three years ago went back to work after three months of and doing cardio rehab which I found very helpful I tried by going back as if nothing had happened back to long hours and stress . unfortunately one of the grafts has started to block up so I started reducing my work load as found my self tired all the time am now on a three day week and loving it I know the financial side of things is harder but work life balance is great . Speak to the cardio rehab nurses about the tiredness itcould just be your body needs it at the moment

Hi Helen

Take all of that 4 weeks and probably a bit more besides. I think I’d be trying to negotiate a phased return - reduced hours for a few weeks once you return. Certainly don’t hurry back, work might like it but if it makes you more ill nobody is going to win, least of all, you.

As you will probably know from your history, tiredness goes with territory but sleeping is good for your recovery so rest up as much as you can in the early days and try to add in exercise a little bit at a time.
