My Dad was diagnosed with 2 vessel CAD with preserved LV. He is very worried and does not seem to understand the diagnosis despite speaking to his Dr.
Can anyone give me any idea / or had similar diagnosis so I can reassure him?
Thanks all

Hi Dhomewood,
I am sorry your Dad has these concerns. It is very difficult to absorb information when it's given using medical 'speak'. 2 vessel CAD( coronary artery disease) is indicating that 2 of his coronary arteries( 2 of the many blood vessels that supply the heart itself ) have become narrow - this happens over many years and can lead to symptoms of angina- which usually causes people to have episodes of chest pain.
Preserved LV is talking about the left ventricle( the most muscular part of the heart)and the force with which it is working/pumping blood out to the body, which is ok.
If he has had an angiogram/echocardiogram in order for this diagnosis to be given, what have the doctors advised following on? He may have been prescribed some medication,so it might be an idea to have a chat with his GP about it and to find out how they all work in protecting the heart.
It might be an idea to think about any lifestyle changes he may need to think about, such as not smoking, eating healthily and being as physically active as he can,.These will help his heart work more efficiently, as well as controlling high cholesterol and blood pressure which are commonly associated with his condition
If he, or you would like to talk things through further with one of the heart helpline nurses, The number is 0300-330-3311 There is someone there Monday- Friday from 9-5.
I hope I've helped.
Take care,
Philippa
