Hi Carolsews, are you on medication? If so could be ramipril, that has a dry cough as a side effect.

Mark

Going to GP later, I have taken enalapril for years so not sure about that. Finding it difficult to lie flat at night too.

Welcome Carol. As Mark says, could be a side effect of medication, though having a cough/not being able to lie flat is often a sign of fluid retention, sometimes as a result of your heart struggling to pump properly. Hopefully your GP has managed to offer an explanation/reassure you. Definitely always a good idea to let the professionals know about any new symptoms, particularly when your heart attack was so recent. Good luck with everything going forwards :)

Hi Carol

Welcome to the forum, best to see the GP could just be a cough there's a lot of it about.

Acid Reflux could be a possibility that causes a cough when you lie flat, NSAI drugs like Asprin can also be a cause of Acid Reflux !!!. A well known indigestion preparation could help if that is the cause, speak with your GP.

I had the same thing after my heart attack. I felt awful, and for me it was ramipril. Changed it and felt much better. Cough took awhile though to get rid. I wish you all the best in your recovery

Ramapril has a cough as a side affect speak too your rehab nurse as he/She can change things about to a combination of tablets too suit you . I don't take Ramapril or a beta blocker . I'm settled now after a heart attack and 2 heart bypasses. I wish you the best if in doubt about anything ask .

Well here I am 9 months later GP has been useless. My Gastro nurse solved it for me. (Got UC) it was medication induced . GP and Cardiologist were no help and still insist it has nothing to do with the drugs I am now taking a double dose of omeprasol don’t know how to spell that.it seems that having 2 things wrong with you is beyond their abilities .
