Hello all again,

Just a little update.

I have had 2 postponements since july and i have not heard any different from the hospital so i will be having my mitral valve replaced tomorrow in the afternoon.

Very scared now,my daughter is 15 and is devastated but hoping its for a better life for us both being 45 and been ill for most of her life.

Thank you all for the support since i joined here, its been very hard for me to find and talk to anyone who has had this op done.

I will update when i can, facing cicu and hdu first but i will be always happy to share my experience with anyone who faces this.

Mine was caused from Strep throat leading to rheumatic fever and has only taken about 7 years to damage my mitral valve to the point of being replaced..severe mitral stenosis.

Good luck to anyone else having surgery soon too

Love

Jenny x

Hi Jenny - I think everyone must find it scary no matter how big or small the surgery is. A friend of mine fainted having a mole removed...

You'll be with plenty of people waiting for surgery so feel free to wander around and chat to them! They're probably all feeling the same thing you are. You can also have a chat with your nurses and the anaesthetist about what sedatives might be on offer to take the edge off your anxiety before you go into theatre.

Remember that everyone is there to look after you and make sure your surgery is a success. We want your life to be better afterwards :)

Take care, and feel free to post whatever thoughts, feelings and pics you like to keep yourself occupied!

Chris, I am on the P1 list for surgery at Papworth, I am also a little worried, the wait does not help.

Are there any more posts from Jenny, how did she get on?

Hi Jenny, I have been thinking about you and wondering how your op went, now I know it was cancelled again. Sorry to hear about the 2nd cancellation but hopefully it will go ahead tomorrow and you will soon be posting that you are on the road to recovery. I see my surgeon on 21st September so will know more after then.

Best wishes for tomorrow X

Hi Jenny. It's perfectly natural to be scared before an op and i suspect everyone has at least some fear involved. It'd be weird not to be worried.

The good news is that your op has finally arrived and you can get it sorted. It must be horrible having it cancelled once, nevermind twice. Try to remember the surgeons do this on a daily basis and once you've recovered the quality of life will improve, for you and your family.

All the best.

Good luck! With a sedative the night before and more in the morning, you should float towards the anaesthetist! I did.

Hi Jenny,

I hope your surgery went well. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.💜

I'm sure it will go well.

We worry about our kids more than ourselves. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Onwards and upwards.

This time next week you'll all be through the worst of it.

Fingers crossed it happens for you this time. X

Jenny, I hope very much that your op went well, there appear to not be any more recent posts, so hope that life continues to improve for you, I would be interested to hear how gradual was the recovery?

Hi, Jenny, I was diagnosed with a faulty Mitral Valve in July 2018. I saw heart consultant in August and was told I would be put on his list for a replacement valve. I had been seeing a lung consultant as I kept getting chest infections, one after the other, it was actually that consultant who spotted the Mitral Valve problem on a scan of my lungs and he actually referred me to Cardiology. I also have Pulmonary Hypertension and the cardiologist can't guarantee that this will be cured by the valve operation. This has been going on since early 2018. I was told I would have to wait 4-6 months and phone in December to be told to phone after Christmas. When I did this his secretary told me it would be at least another 4 months. She suggested a few things which might bump me up the queue! A & E, a letter from my GP or change to another surgeon who would do the op open heart! I visited my doctor and he dictated a letter to my surgeon saying that I was feeling very unwell and would he consider bringing my operation forward? Looking online at the NHS operation waiting times it says the MAXIMUM waiting time for an operation is 18 weeks! I'm over that now. Has anyone else experienced a 9 month wait?
