Having your period shouldn't affect any of they treatments (creams or freezing), however if you are actively trying to get pregnant it is best to avoid using the cream treatment as the creams shouldn't be used in pregnancy (or when pregnancy might happen).

Have you had the warts before? Lots of rubbish on the internet about them, they are a purely cosmetic annoyance.

bashh.org/public has more information

no this is the first time ive had them. i saw some stuff on the internet saying that if you smoke it takes longer to heal, im not a heavy smoker do you think that they base it on heavy smokers?

thanks for your help

As for as I am aware smoking has no relationship with treatment. Treatment can be either application of cream or freezing them using cold gas. Both have similar effectiveness but the advantage of cream application is that you can do this at home where as freezing treatment need repeat visit to the clinic.

In general smoking is not good for health but this should not have any effect on treatment of warts.

Hello, all. Ik this thread is quite old and not sure if anyone is even still following, but I was diagnosed with HPV about 25 years ago, which is when the disease was starting to make headway and why it is so prevalent today, unfortunately. I had any visible genital warts, that had cropped up, removed and didn't see any since...until this past month. I have recently been diagnosed with Grave's disease and am being treated with methimazole. The disease has taken hold of my entire life for many years, without me knowing, and sent me into a rapid decline both physically and mentally. The most noticeable changes, in my opinion, were my mood swings from mounting anxiety that would make my entire body shake from its core and my tremors that resulted from the nearly 50 lbs of weight loss in muscle due to atrophy. The thyroid is NO JOKE! Never underestimate what it does for you.

My point is I now believe I have been having issues with healing, my immune system, especially since I have what I thought was a pimple but now think it may be a tick crater on my breast that won't heal. I also have found what I believe to be a single wart just inside the opening on my vagina. It's definitely a growth of some sort. I have an appointment Monday morning with a new gynecologist, but it looks like I may be about to start my period. That's another thing. I was on the Depo-provera shot for many years, not for birth control but to lessen my pain & bleeding through my cycles, and haven't been on the shot for about a year now. I've been wondering if stopping the shot had anything to do with my thyroid overproduction all of a sudden. Oh, I also have atrial fibrillation now as a result of the Grave's disease because I had it so long undiagnosed. The disease already did it's damage. My pcp thought we might be able to get me off warfarin & reverse what's been done, but it's too late. I'm only 41-yrs old and must now be on blood thinners and beta blockers for the rest of my life. Heck, my INR is only FINALLY in the right range! But my pulse is always between 140 and 155 every time I go into the doc. I don't want more meds!

Sorry, this thread is supposed to be about genital warts. My main question is...are there truly creams for GENITAL warts and treatments that are otc?! There was NOTHING like this back when I needed treatment. Again, this was about 25 yrs ago. Ik there are lasers and freezing techniques, and there are creams for warts on your HANDS but not your genitals, guys. Lol. I don't think the stuff you can buy otc is the same stuff that's used at the clinic, lol. I certainly wouldn't wanna put that stuff on my vag. OUCH!!! I'd probably burn a dang whole into my colon and out my back! Yowza! If you're still out there, plz get back to me. I'm gonna also copy & paste this in the main thread. Thx!

Dear bobm12,

You are correct in saying smoking affects the treatment of warts. In that smokers are more likely to have recurrences of warts and they can take longer to go away. There a re a few scientific papers published now showing this.

A good incentive to give up! Maybe a New Years Resolution?!

Kind regards.
