Hi! Just looking for reassurance/advice. My little one is nearly 3 weeks old and I’ve been mixed feeding since he was born. He’s doing really well with it and seems generally content but he only does a poo every 2/3 days and seems to be straining every so often, getting a bit upset and pulling his knees to his chest. Has anyone else had experience of this and is there anything I can do to help him? I’m trying to increase the amount he bfs and reduce formula but not making enough at the moment to fill him up

Newborn toilet troubles!
Hi
My baby is 6 weeks now and we did have similar issues at 3 weeks.
I was told to lift the legs as you do when changing a nappy and make bicycle movements to help bowel movement.
To my surprise health visitor said 2-3 days is normal for formula fed baby to not poop.
Baby has since developed a umbilical hernia which I believe was caused by the straining to poo...
Long story short we’ve now changed formula and now it’s none stop pooping 😂
Best of luck to you & baby x
Hey which formula did you switch to and from?
Thanks,
Leigh
Hi
I self diagnosed and changed him to apatamil reflux but worsened his conditions so I brought him into to A&E. Best thing I could have done tbh... baby received a full MOT in no time.
He was eventually prescribed nutramigen by the paediatric drs as they also suspected a milk allergy.
We are now working closely with the hospital dietitians which is great as I found the community ones to have not been much help.
Good luck... if in doubt do speak to the professionals x
Tummy massages and bicycle legs and warm baths help. Perhaps you could have a look at an online course of baby massage? The more you breastfeed the more your supply will "up" itself I believe. Try The Breastfeeding Network for more information and advice. I have found lots of breastfeeding support on Facebook pages xx
