I believe a lot of people with ASD have stomach issues. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence Out there but I cannot find any good academic evidence of gluten intolerance and autism. I started to have a lot of unpleasant problems about 15 years ago and found I was intolerant to wheat. Over the years it has got worse and I avoid gluten. I struggle if I eat wheat, oats, barley and too much sugar. Fortunately I have found several acceptable alternatives.
My son suffered from bad headaches, since avoiding gluten this has stopped. I am not over stricked about it but he is old enough to know what affects him. There's not much evidence, but if it makes you feel better to avoid it then that would seem to be the thing to do.
