Puzzles. Different amount of puzzle pieces. See if you can do it initially with him or not or if he wants to do it alone. Colored pencils crayons markers drawing paper and construction paper. A few books with designs in it already. I don't know what your budget is but there are books on animals bugs architecture cats dogs bridges at the library that is available. Or the Dollar store has National Geographic Books for kids and art supplies too. Autistic kids can be very creative . Its up to you what you choose to do however I have to say that stimming is important and I'm asking you to research it for yourself before you set boundaries on it.

Read to him . Provide books for him to read. Be patient. I'm glad he was diagnosed because sometimes a child is tested and says what he thinks the tester or his teacher or parents want him to say. Autistic individuals can be pretty perceptive. Art is important and therapeutic for kids and adults. Take care of yourself too.

I really appreciate the time you took to write this and your advise is valuable. Will try very hard to get him appropriate subjects in books and colouring books and read to him on various subjects. I am in United Kingdom. My son is low functioning so may find difficult but photos or pictures he always treasures and understands

My son enjoys metal puzzles (hard to destroy) he has one shaped like a ufo. He likes looking at national geographic magazines (likes lots of pix) and watching tv shows that feature people running humorous obstacle courses. He also likes helping me bake a little..I have him dump ingredients into the bowl and he will help with the hand mixer but that is usually all "hand over hand". We had a picture bingo game he enjoyed and he likes card matching games when he is in a good mood.

He doesn't like to color very much but he likes to be read to if the book isn't too talky. His teacher has suggested those removable (plastic) sticker books and mazes. He hasn't tried mazes yet but is not really a fan of the sticker books, but maybe your son would be.

He does like clay, play sand, and little cars and trains. He had a bubble machine/gun that he enjoyed quite a bit before it broke and he enjoys small flashlights too. He likes anything that has lights that spin or color changes. He likes puzzles too if he's in the mood. The wooden ones have worked best for us. Hope some of those ideas help.
