My 11 yr old son was diagnosed with Aspergers last year. I have a 14 yr daughter and 5 yr old son who share a room with the 11 yr old.

Haringey council do not deem us a priority to move us from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom. Any advice?

Hiya, u could join homeswapper.co.uk, and find a swap with someone looking for someone who wishes to downsize. More people need to do this due to 'bedroom tax'.

Once your daughter turns 16, your priority for more bedrooms should increase, since it is deemed that she should have a room of her own, so that is worth remembering when stating your case to authorities.

You may consider building your case for greater priority by enlisting the support of your G.P, Social worker, etc, involved in the care of your son, to highlight specific issues caused by your son's condition, and the impact it has on the fact that he is required to share a bedroom, ie; need for a quiet retreat in case of sensory overload, problems with appropriate sleep, etc.

I had a very similar situation to you, and it had a huge impact on us as a family. I was able to increase our priority with the council, but eventually, I found a swap through the above mentioned site. It can feel like an uphill struggle, and can take a considerable length of time, but if you keep pushing, something is bound to change :)) and when it does, it's so worth it... Best of luck!

I thought it was an 'issue' having a girl sharing a bedroom with boys once they are over a certain age.....I know they suggest parents of the opposite sex shouldn't be taking a 2yr old to the toilet because they supposedly become more 'aware'.....I would be highlighting the age of your children & them all being forced to share one room

Hi. You are officially overcrowded and the council need to move you to a larger property. Haringey council's own rules stipulate that only 2 children should share a bedroom whatever their age or sex. 2 children both under the age of ten can share a room regardless of gender, but over the age of 10 they must be the same sex. At the age of 16 each child is entitled to their own room. By the council's rules you are entitled to a 4 bedroom property. Unfortunately no disabled child is entitled to their own room purely on the grounds of being disabled but that doesn't matter in your case. Please speak to Shelter or the CAB for advice on enforcing your rights. haringey.gov.uk/size_criter...
